POLVO Press Ltd. was founded by artist Eva Titherington and I in 2021. Our first title was Eva’s play, Burial, realised initially as part of her BA dissertation.

The original vision of the press was to offer editorial and design assistance to artists-cum-authors. This involved proofreading, designing page layouts and covers, preparing the work digitally for printing, deciding the dimensions and weight of the paper or simply offering advice and experience to anyone interested in publishing.

POLVO funded the entire cost of printing and didn’t charge authors for the time they spent developing each published work.

Editions were printed in 50 copy batches. Authors received 50% of the profit of their work. The other half went to maintaining the business.

Each publication’s price was decided in relation to the cost of printing.

We worked with artist and writer Poor Mother to publish their collection of poems Slippery When Wet. It came with a poster designed by artist and jeweller Max M-K.
POLVO Press Ltd.’s first commision was to design the catalogue for Camberwell College of Arts’ exhibition The Drawing Postal Project - a collection of A4 submissions from UAL students during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns. The show was curated by Rupert Norfolk, who at that time was the Course Leader of BA Fine Art: Drawing.

Following our work with Rupert for the catalogue, he invited us to design and edit his PhD thesis, The Mobility of Facts, which was published in 2022.
